The abuse of men by their female partners is a serious problem in South Africa. Men face various forms of abuse in their relationships. When they ask for help, they are often treated with disbelief and become the laughingstock of the entire society. Similarly, they are often by dismissed by police officers who also believe that a man cannot be abused by a woman. Because of this, men often feel alone and choose to remain silent about this problem, making it difficult to understand and solve. However, Facebook groups such as Ask a Man allows male victims to come together and vent about their victimisation online. And this is where I come in. I intend to study and analyse these comments through a Critical Discourse Analysis so that new insights can be gained about this problem. The results from this study will hopefully be beneficial to police officers, researchers, and communities so that solutions can be developed for male victims. Just like everyone, male victims deserve to be heard, seen and happy.
