Transcript:
This is Sally. Sally was an athlete. And Sally knew that one day her athletic career would come to an end. But she thought that would be years away. Then one morning at training, Sally sustained an injury, an injury that she couldn't recover from. And her athletic career was over in an instant. She found herself with no career, no income, no other work prospects, and frustratingly little support from the sport that she had been so dedicated to. My research aims to drive change in the sport industry by improving the support that is provided to elite women athletes who need to suddenly transition to a new career beyond elite sport. Based on the results of a document analysis and interviews with retired elite women athletes and sporting organisation managers, a practical guide for national sporting organizations will be developed so they are better able to support athletes like Sally.
